A Status Update

First of all, we have a sad announcement to make. Harlequin’s Kiss have decided to part company with rhythm guitarist Nathan Howells. It was a difficult decision, but one that we felt was in the best interests of the band. We wish him well in his future endeavours, but unfortunately we have come to recognise that he was not the right player for us.

We wish it to be known, however, that we are not on hiatus.

We were a single-guitar band from 2012-14, and while we are looking for a new drummer and rhythm guitarist we are still available for gigs. We have a drum machine that we are very well-rehearsed with, and Rob has worked hard to get the best possible sound out of it. In fact, at our recent show at Subside, a photographer was so convinced by our sound that he tried to take a photo of the guy behind the kit and was surprised to find nobody sitting there. We have also had offers from dep drummers that we have gratefully accepted.

The show goes on, and is still the full, in-your-face Harlequin’s Kiss experience, but we advise that any bookings we accept in the near future are on the understanding that we do not know if we will be turning up with a live drummer or a machine until after the booking is confirmed. For bookings, email harlequinskiss.band@gmail.com.

If you want to play with us, please get in touch. We are looking for a drummer and a second guitarist, but are open to a guitarist joining us a multi-instrumentalist if that’s what you are.

For an audition, email harlequinskiss.band@gmail.com, preferably with links to (or mp3s of) your previous work.

Harlequin’s Kiss hit Subside

Harlequin’s Kiss are pleased to announce their participation in BCU Rock Society’s All Day Festival for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation at Subside bar on 27th May 2018.

Following the horrific murder of Sophie Lancaster, her family wanted to ensure a lasting legacy to their beautiful, bright creative daughter and so The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established. It became a registered charity in 2009 (Registered Charity No. 1129689). The charity aims to provide educational group-works that will challenge the prejudice and intolerance towards people from alternative subcultures, and campaigns to have the UK Hate Crime legislation extended to include people from alternative subcultures or Lifestyle and Dress.

Tickets will be £4 and £5 on the door, and will go on sale on 30th April.

Doors will open at 2pm and bands will begin at 4pm.

Harlequin’s Kiss will be joining a line-up of six bands announced so far.

(N.B. At the time of going to press, the line-up is still very much subject to change.)

Drummer Wanted

We’re sorry to announce that our new drummer, Claudio Espinosa has decided to leave us this weekend. We wish him all the best in his future. As such, we have a vacancy behind the drum kit. If you would like to play the drums with Harlequin’s Kiss, message us on facebook, or email us: harlequinskiss.band@gmail.com

Harlequin’s Kiss return to the Gunmakers

Harlequin’s Kiss are pleased to announce that we will be returning to our long-running home, The Gunmakers Arms, on 11th March 2018. Entry will be free, with the show starting at 7pm.

As announced yesterday, this will be a performance by a one-night-only version of our line-up, with Chris Parry returning to the drums for this show. Chris was the drummer for the recording of our 4-track EP, Playing Rough, which will be available on CD at the show for the princely sum of £4. With Chris no longer regularly associated with the band, this will be a rare opportunity for signature collectors.

We will be supported this time around by singer-song writer Brad Stokes, whose projects include the bands City Street Lights and Waves Against Tides. A winner of ‘Sam Kanes search for a star’ 2017, Brad is influenced by rock, blues, country and Americana.

The Gunmakers Arms is at 92 Bath Street, Birmingham, B4 6HG

Drummers: The Changing of the Guard

This week is bittersweet for us. Early in the new year, Giulio Tarrantino informed us that he intends to return to Italy and will no longer be able to play the drums for Harlequin’s Kiss. This is our final week with him behind the kit. His musical instincts meshed beautifully with the Harlequin’s Kiss sound and his presence behind us on stages all over the West Midlands will be sorely missed. Our loss will be the Italian rock scene’s gain.

We are, however, lucky enough to have found his replacement in surprisingly short order. We hope you will give a warm welcome to Claudio Espinosa. A natural blues-rock drummer, Claudio has slipped very quickly into the rhythm of our music and is looking very close to being gig-ready after only two weeks of rehearsals.

Claudio is currently being trained on the core of our set. We have not set deadlines for returning to regular gigging, but we will be announcing things as soon as we’re happy that the band is tight again.

We have decided not to let this change affect our plans for 2018. It was our intention to hit the recording studio at the end of February, and we will be doing so with Mike subbing on drums for the first batch of planned recordings. We will also be playing our first gig of 2018 on 11th March, with our former drummer Chris Parry returning for one night only. Further details will be announced tomorrow.

Gunmakers Arms tonight

There has been a last-minute change of line-up at this evening’s show at the Gunmakers Arms. Charlotte Young is unfortunately unable to perform. Instead we’re proud to present Redditch-based acoustic duo Act of the Risen.

Act of the Risen is an energetic acoustic act from redditch and Wolverhampton who do a wide range of covers and original and are always looking to push.

The Gunmakers Arms is at 92 Bath Street, Birmingham, B4 6HG
